Frederico Graziani; The Mount Etna Wine Maker, joins our Portfolio
26/08/2021We are very excited to announce our new partnership with Frederico Graziani. And there is a lot to be excited about when it comes to Frederico Graziani. If it’s not his outstanding Jancis Robinson score of multiple 18 points, it could be the fact that he has dedicated his whole life to perfecting his wine making craft. He has given all his time and efforts into understanding each of his wines on their own, how they live, how they grow and how they change over time and their complexity.
A professional since the age of 19, at 23 he won the AIS competition as the best sommelier in Italy in 1998, an achievement that gave him the opportunity to work at a high level alongside Gualtiero Marchesi, Stefano Cavallini, Bruno Loubet, Carlo Cracco, Aimo and Nadia Moroni. Frederico then went on to obtain a degree in Viticulture and Oenology in 2006 which convinced him to turn to producer.
The vineyards are located on the slopes of Mount Etna, between 600 and 1200 metres above sea level on the north and north-west slopes. A mysterious and special place, a unique ecosystem characterised by an extraordinary climatic variability and a landscape rich in contrasts and life. Due to the location and proximity of Mount Etna each vine has its roots in a different soil, thanks to the complexity and heterogeneity of the soil. The volcanic soil provides a wealth of minerals and great fertility which nevertheless boasts one of the richest wine-growing traditions in Italy and Europe.
Vines have been growing in this area for the last 2000 years in small patches of land from the mountain. Exposure to the sea breezes, the high altitude and abundant of rainfall throughout the year creates a microclimate that is different to the rest of the region resulting in such a perfect natural oasis to grow wine.

Every single bottle is an honest expression not only of the terroir of this unique land but the farming system. The vines are trained in the alberello system (bush vines), organically managed, although no wine is currently registered as organic, but this is one of the goals for the future. Frederico has listings in nine of Italy’s eleven 3* Michelin restaurants, a clear view of the great standard of his wine.

Oeno are proud to represent the following wines exclusively in the UK; Mareneve 2018 (JR 17++), Etna Rosso Fedegraziani 2018 (17+), Feudo di Mezzo 2018 (17.5), Profumo di Vulcano 2017 (18, in magnum also). The recent report & scoring on Jancis Robinson confirms what the Oeno team already knew about this incredible producer. Walter Speller described the Profumo di Vulcano, 2017 “Simply gorgeous and hedonistic. Expensive but worth every penny”.
Frederico Graziani will be available to buy and drink on our terrace at Oeno House from December, more information can be found at www.oenogroup.com/house
