Oeno Acquires Magnificent 30 Litre Boerl & Kroff 1995
10/03/2021Oeno has just acquired a magnificent Boerl & Kroff Melchizedek 1995 bottle direct from the famed Champagne house. This impressive 30-litre bottle is one of just four produced from the 1995 vintage, making this a very special addition to the Oeno portfolio.
Fine wine house Oeno has recently partnered with Boerl & Kroff as their exclusive U.K. importer, so it seemed only fitting to celebrate this new relationship in style with one of the rarest and most expensive bottles available on the market. The Boerl & Kroff Melchizedek is made up of 90% Pinot Noir, 7% Chardonnay and 3% Pinot Meunier. Only 4 Melchizedeks were produced in 1995, with the first one disgorged in 2012.

“The unique character of this special format is due to the fermentation ‘within the bottle’…,” explained the Boerl & Kroff press office. “The juices come exclusively from the first press and flow naturally, without pumping. This process allows us to use a very low quantity of sulphites and a very natural vinification.”
“There are only four bottles in the world of this 1995 vintage in this very large format, so it’s unique,” commented Boerl & Kroff CEO Stéphane Sésé. “There are no more wines available from the 1995 vintage. It would be amazing to celebrate a really special wedding or party with this bottle – you can serve up to 350 Champagne glasses from this one bottle alone. There is even a special machine to serve it because it’s so big. The reason we created this is because it’s spectacular and we pride ourselves on doing something no one else dares to do, partnering with the finest craftsmen and artisans we can find.”
Due to the size the bottle comes with a very special reinforced box to prevent damage from vibrations during transport. The bottle alone cost around €4000 to create at a glass-blowing facility in Italy where the kiln was left constantly running to maintain the high temperatures required.
Once the bottle arrives in the U.K. Oeno will offer the 30-litre behemoth for a selling price of £173,000/€200,000. Interest is expected to be high, with the lucky new owner acquiring a truly unique piece of wine history. The precious liquid inside has been maturing in the Boerl & Kroff cellars since 1995, and the bottle comes with its own bespoke stand.
