Oeno reveals Cécile Tremblay as the Producer Appointed for the elevage of the Pièce des Présidents08/03/2022
We are thrilled to be celebrating International Women’s Day with the appointment of Cécile Tremblay as the producer for the élevage of the Pièce des Présidents. Acquiring the wine at the 161st Hospices de Beaune auction for €800,000, Oeno established a new record hammer price for the barrel and contributed to two important charities – the Fédération Nationale Solidarité Femmes to fight against violence towards women, and the Institut Curie, to aid medical research against breast cancer.
Cécile Tremblay, a rising star of Burgundy and Henri Jayer’s grand-niece, was a natural and unanimous choice. Head of Marketing for Oeno, Effi Tsournava, commented that “it was Cécile’s holistic approach to grape-growing, winemaking and how she transformed her vineyards that informed our decision. Cécile has removed herbicides, applied biodynamic methods and taken her vineyards through organic certification. We felt it was paramount to find the right Burgundian vigneron who would transition the wine into the next phase of its life and there is no doubt that Cecile is ideal for this.”
Due to her personal connection to the charities supported by the acquisition, Cécile stated that, “it touches me even more because my mother died of cancer in 2017 and my biggest regret is that my young children did not get the time to know her more.” Cécile’s mother was an entrepreneur, “who went to a volunteer club every month dedicated to helping women, making them more independent, in France and abroad. This desire to help others shaped my childhood.“
Cécile on the 2021 vintage: “After a complicated start to spring, flowering took place in wonderful conditions in June. The vines then began to grow and catch up with the delay at the start of the season. The harvest took place at the end of September and the volumes harvested are generally low, but the vintage promises to be truly Burgundian: typical wines, small yields, incredible balance! When you have been able to wait for real maturity, and the grapes have been sublimated, you can only be moved to taste a wine like Corton Renardes, where the Pièce des Présidents comes from. The 2021 vintage favoured quality over quantity!”Back Home
