Oeno’s Head of Business Development Becomes A Freeman Of The Worshipful Company of International Bankers

19/07/2023

“Becoming a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers is a great honour to me that carries with it a rich tradition and a deep sense of belonging to a framework that traces its history back to 1155 (the Weavers’ Company). However, it also carries a duty to uphold the values of the livery companies. They are integral to the City’s governance: each year liverymen elect the Sheriffs of the City of London, endorse the election of the Lord Mayor and play a prominent part in major events.

My ceremony was conducted in the Guild Hall and everyone was extremely friendly; especially as none of us new Freeman knew what to expect. However, the sense of comeraderie helped to ebb away any nerves. After the ceremony, I had an opportunity to speak with current and new members and to learn that the livery company is a diverse group of individuals whose common thread is banking. Joining later in the year has meant that I have missed a few events to socialise with other members of the livery company, however I am looking forward to the Installation Dinner in October where our keynote speaker will be the current Bank of England Governor, Andrew Bailey.”
