The New Star of Burgundy

12/04/2021

After two generations of the family not being involved in wine making, Henri Jayer’s grand-niece, Cécile, retained ownership of three hectares with a rich historic value to continue the family tradition.  In 2003 she took back three hectares and since then has expanded up to ten with eleven different appellations between Nuits-St-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin, including the Grand Crus Chapelle-Chambertin and Echezeaux-du-Dessus.

Since taking over this land Cecile has worked extremely hard to get the vineyards back in good health. The vines are now certified organic, and Cécile pursues a number of biodynamic methods. She had studied oenology and viticulture in Dijon and tends to her vines with the utmost care and respect for terroir and the environment. Cécile is a great example of how to practise a new way of sustainable and environmentally friendly wine making.

The production is very tiny with exceptional quality. Cécile Tremblay’s moto is “the grape bunches are my English roses, the vineyards my garden”.

Her list of wines will doubtless evolve further: in 2006 and 2007 premier cru Les Rouges went into the village Vosne Romanée, while most of the Nuits-St-Georges is premier cru Murgers, but the vines are young. From this year there will be much more Beaumonts and some Clos de Vougeot as well.

Oeno are very excited to be partnering with this vineyard and being able to offer these exceptional wines to our clients. With the rich history that follows Cécile, the excitement and intrigue from the industry that surrounds this estate, it makes this wine the perfect investment. We think Domaine Cécile Tremblay is definitely one vineyard to keep an watch out for and expect great thigs In the future.
