The Upstart German Pinot Challenging Burgundy’s Best
28/01/2021Oeno are very excited to introduce our UK exclusive partnership with Pinot Noix, the project created by up-and-coming young wine maker Daniel Twardowski. Daniel’s bold vision began with a dream of creating a perfect Pinot Noir in the famous regions of Moselle, brilliant enough to compete with the best in Burgundy.
The lengths Daniel has gone to in crafting this wine is what makes the product so special, creating a unique twist on an infamous classic. The Dhron Hofberg vineyard has been considered a Grand Cru site of the Mosel Valley in Germany since the 1860s. The steep slopes are at the northern limit for ripening Pinot Noir. Daniel has sourced the best clonal materials from Burgundy’s most famous producers and ferments the wine in barrels handed down from Romanée-Conti and Armand Rousseau.

These wines are gaining real global recognition, and due to the warmer growing seasons Daniels’ bottlings channel the great potential of these historic vineyards for world-class Pinot Noir. Not only have Oeno secured significant portions of total production, we also have designed the first Oeno private label wine in partnership with Pinot Noix which will be available at OenoHouse when it opens later this year.

Mattia Tabacco (Senior Wine Buyer and Head of the Anti-Fraud Unit) of Oeno says “This is a high cost-of-production area and top German Spatburgunders are made in tiny quantities – most of the wines are sold directly to clients within German-speaking countries and can easily yield in excess of £100 a bottle. As Daniel’s reputation is improving these are good early-investment opportunities”
