Sassicaia Announced Wine of the Year 2018
Tenuta San Guido’s Sassicaia 2015 has just been announced as the 2018 Wine of the Year by the iconic magazine Wine Spectator. This sensational wine started life in the 1940s as an experiment by Marchese Mario Incisa dell Rocchetta who set out to try to craft a Bordeaux-style red on his Tuscan estate. The result of his experiment was extremely successful and Sassicaia quickly became known as one of Tuscany’s finest wines. Today the estate is in the capable hands of the third generation of the family, Mario’s granddaughter Priscilla, and it seems only fitting that this honour of being named Wine of the Year comes exactly fifty years after the first commercial vintage of Sassicaia in 1968.
Each year Wine Spectator editors blind taste over 15,000 wines and from these reviews the Top 100 wines are selected annually. In addition to the all-important score given to each wine, the editors also take into account the price and value represented by each wine and availability in the United States where the magazine is based. A final crucial consideration is what Wine Spectator calls the “X-factor”, a fascinating story behind the wine which sets it apart from its competitors.
As well as providing investors and wine enthusiasts with a summary of the year, the list also highlights emerging regions, producers and wines which offer great potential and promise for the future. The selection of Sassicaia 2015 as the Wine of the Year is excellent news for our OenoFuture clients who already have Italian wines in their portfolio and a warm invitation for investors to consider digging deeper into this unique wine country.Ritorno a casa
