Oeno Welcomes Almudena Alberca MW as Brand Ambassador for Spain

Oeno is delighted to welcome Almudena Alberca MW to the team as our Brand Ambassador for Spain. 

Almudena Alberca became Spain’s first female Master of Wine in 2018, balancing the notoriously demanding examinations of the MW programme with working full-time as a winemaker. Her impressive resume includes stints working at the boutique winery Cénit in Zamora and her current role as technical director at the large Bodegas Palacios 1894 winemaking group. 

Born in Madrid, Almudena initially studied agricultural engineering before choosing specialising in viticulture and oenology.  She is currently based in the heart of Ribera del Duero and has achieved industry-wide recognition for her winemaking talents. In 2018 she was named one of the 10 most promising young women in the Spanish wine industry by Decanter magazine. The following year she was awarded 2019 Woman of the Year, and in 2020 she was chosen as person of the year by both the association of Spanish wine journalists and by the prestigious Spanish magazine Mercados del Vino y la Distribución.

Almudena has almost 20 years of experience in the world of wine with a particular focus on crafting premium wines from some of the finest terroirs in northwestern Spain. She also has considerable experience of sourcing Spanish wines for the American market, carrying out strategic development of wineries, launching new products, and developing training activities for sommeliers and students of the WSET and IMW.
