OenoTrade Hosts World’s First Liber Pater Masterclass

On February 26th 2020 OenoTrade will host our inaugural Portfolio Tasting bringing together 25 wineries across the globe. The headline act of the day will be the world’s first ever Liber Pater masterclass lead by superstar winemaker Loic Pasquet. Pasquet crafts some of the most expensive wines in the world, with his most recent vintage, the 2015, opening at a record-breaking release price of £26,000 (€30,000) per bottle.

Named after the ancient Roman god of viticulture, Liber Pater is a small boutique winery in Graves which only began production in 2006 and labels its wines simply as “Vin de France”. Pasquet’s vision to capture the original, pre-phylloxera taste of Bordeaux and his remarkable commitment to quality has quickly earned him a cult following amongst fine wine collectors. Annual production is typically tiny, with Pasquet managing to produce just 550 bottles of the vaunted 2015 vintage.

Part of Pasquet’s work has focused on reviving rare forgotten Bordeaux varietals like Marselan, Tarney Coulant, and Castet which are no longer permitted for inclusion under the strict regulations of the AOC Graves.

OenoTrade’s world-first Liber Pater masterclass will be a unique opportunity for members of the UK trade and press to taste Pasquet’s wines along with commentary by the winemaker himself. Pasquet’s wines already have some visibility on the UK market, but this exclusive event will provide a thorough introduction to the Liber Pater winery and the fascinating philosophy behind the brand.
