Last week, the fine wine market saw a lively week of trade, with Champagne and Tuscany both pushing forward on the back of standout performances from Salon and Sassicaia. Bordeaux remained the market leader by value, but its dominance is clearly softening as momentum builds elsewhere.
Bordeaux’s share slipped to 29.8% of trade by value, with Château Pavie, Mouton Rothschild and Petrus leading activity. Pavie 2022 caught attention as it traded for the first time since becoming physical, but prices were nearly 30% below its release price. Buyers appear to be circling at these levels, though the 2021 vintage still looks cheaper, suggesting that 2022 may struggle to hold ground.
The real story of the week was Salon. The prestige Champagne house topped the leaderboard as the most traded producer, giving the region a 19% share of trade. Salon 2002 led the charge, its prices returning to long-term trendlines with renewed momentum. As we’ve highlighted before, Salon is showing clear signs of being back on investors’ radars.

Tuscany also enjoyed a strong run. Sassicaia 2021 was the week’s top-traded wine. Despite a dip in its Market Price, recent trades at the upper end suggest that weakness could be temporary. Alongside Sassicaia, Solaia 2021 also featured prominently, with the two names alone accounting for more than 80% of Tuscany’s activity.

Elsewhere, Spain made a rare splash, its share of trade jumping from 0.2% to 6.4%. Vega Sicilia led the way, joined by Dominio de Pingus and Castillo Ygay. In the USA, Screaming Eagle, Promontory and Opus One helped the country reach 6.6% of traded value.
Breakdown of buyer geography
Buyer geography offered further insight. EU buyers dominated at 46% of purchased value, the UK followed at 29.3%, while US participation continues to edge higher, reaching 16.4% last week.
